For women with co-occurring issues of substance abuse and interpersonal violence, both safety and sobriety must be priorities. Review the impact of safety on sobriety, and the impact of sobriety on safety. Women’s advocates usually have clients develop a safety plan. Substance abuse counselors may have clients develop a relapse prevention plan. Discuss how participants can make relapse prevention part of their safety plan, and safety part of their relapse prevention plan.
