Vision

The vision of Project SAFE is that women in Suffolk County who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence with disabilities will have universal access to a network of organizations that promote a culture of dignity, respect, and acceptance. Service providers will work in a seamless and timely manner as partners with these individuals on their journey toward safety, empowerment, and economic justice.

Mission

The mission of Project SAFE is that the partner organizations will work together to promote a safe, accessible and responsive service environment for women in Suffolk County who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence with a physical and/or developmental disability. Project SAFE will accomplish this by creating sustainable changes in their organizational cultures through:

Fostering collaboration
Sharing resources and knowledge
Enhancing the existing service delivery system
Implementing policies and procedures that reflect best practices of professional ethics, trust, open communication, and true understanding of the challenges and needs of survivors with disabilities.

Collaboration Charter
The collaboration charter summarizes and memorializes the decisions the collaboration agreed upon including: a vision and a mission; shared values; decision making and conflict resolution protocols; policies on confidentiality; communications and work plans; and relevant definitions.

The strategic plan documents the collaboration’s plans for improving services for survivors with disabilities and Deaf survivors. It includes the collaboration’s justification for each initiative and the timelines for completion.

Accessibility Audit Tool
The Accessibility Audit Tool is designed to assess disability organizations and domestic violence organizations as to their accessibility and their ability to provide a welcoming environment to survivors with disabilities and Deaf survivors of violence and abuse.

Safety Audit Tool
The Safety Audit Tool is designed to assess disability organizations and domestic violence organizations as to their safety and their ability to provide a welcoming environment to survivors with disabilities and Deaf survivors of violence and abuse.

These training materials were developed by Project SAFE to enable staff to gain an understanding of the dynamics of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violences; serve as an introduction to the Disabilities Rights Movement; gain an understanding of the intersection of sexual assault/domestic violence and disability; and become more comfortable communicating with individuals who have developmental disabilities.
