Overview

The Suffolk County, New York collaboration - formally named Project SAFE (Safe Access for Everyone) -  is comprised of two organizations, one from the domestic violence/sexual assault advocacy movement, and one from the disability services sector.

The vision of Project SAFE is that women in Suffolk County who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence with disabilities will have universal access to a network of organizations that promote a culture of dignity, respect, and acceptance.  Service providers will work in a seamless and timely manner as partners with these individuals on their journey toward safety, empowerment, and economic justice.

The mission of Project SAFE is that the partner organizations will work together to promote a safe, accessible and responsive service environment for women in Suffolk County who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence with a physical and/or developmental disability.  Project SAFE will accomplish this by creating sustainable changes in their organizational cultures through:

  • Fostering collaboration
  • Sharing resources and knowledge
  • Enhancing the existing service delivery system
  • Implementing policies and procedures that reflect best practices of professional ethics, trust, open communication, and true understanding of the challenges and needs of survivors with disabilities.

Planning & Development Process

In order to effectively improve services and create change in their organizations, the Suffolk County, NY collaboration is taking part in a planning and development process that includes activities to: strengthen their collaboration, identify their focus, learn about the needs in their organizations, and develop a concrete plan for addressing those needs. This section contains files that document this process.

Collaboration Charter

As part of the planning phase of their grant project, the Suffolk County, NY collaboration created a collaboration charter. This document outlines the collaborative's members, member roles and responsibilities, vision and mission, values and relevant definitions. The collaboration charter also describes the team's decision making and conflict resolution protocols, policies on confidentiality, and their communication and work plans.  The collaboration charter document is available in both a PDF Version and a Plain Text Version below.
