The New Jersey-based collaboration, No Wrong Door New Jersey (No Wrong Door NJ), formed in 2007 upon receiving a three-year grant from the Office of Violence Against Women. The collaboration is composed of the state’s coalition against domestic violence, a statewide advocacy organization for people with disabilities, the state coalition against sexual assault, and the statewide advocacy organization for people with psychiatric disabilities. Together, they are committed to ensuring that women with intellectual and developmental disabilities and women with mental illness who are survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence have access to resources and services regardless of which door they enter.
The state-wide collaboration believes that true systems change will occur by building the capacity of domestic and sexual violence organizations, intellectual and developmental disability organizations and mental health organizations to provide an integrated continuum of services to survivors with disabilities. This will be done by fostering collaborative partnerships among these agency types in two communities within New Jersey. Having fostered these collaborations, No Wrong Door New Jersey will assist the agencies to develop promising practices and polices for service provision which will ultimately provide models for the larger New Jersey community.
No Wrong Door NJ has come together collectively with the vision that survivors of domestic and sexual violence with disabilities will be treated with dignity and respect through a seamless integrated system where they will receive timely, appropriate and sufficient service regardless of the door they enter. Currently in their planning phase, the collaboration is preparing to conduct a needs assessment in two New Jersey communities. They will use the data collected to develop a strategic plan which will guide them in their work.
Recipients of the Office on Violence Against Women's Education & Technical Assistance Grant to End Violence Against Women with Disabilities are required to engage in a planning and development process. As part of this process, each collaboration conducts activities to strengthen their collaboration, identify their focus, learn about the needs in their organizations, and develop a concrete plan for addressing those needs. This section contains files that document this process.
As part of the planning phase of their grant project, the No Wrong Door New Jersey team created a collaboration charter. This document outlines the collaborative's members, member roles and responsibilities, vision and mission, values and relevant definitions. The collaboration charter also describes the team's decision making and conflict resolution protocols, policies on confidentiality, and their communication and work plan. The collaboration charter document is available in both a Microsoft Word version and a Microsoft Text version below.
