Overview

Northern Utah Choices Out of Violence (NUCOV) is a collaboration of four partners focused on improving services to people with disabilities and Deaf people who are victims of violence. The agencies involved include a dual domestic violence and rape crisis program, a university center for persons with disabilities, an independent living center, and an agency that primarily serves persons with cognitive disabilities. NUCOV envisions a future where a lasting collaboration of public and private entities work together to ensure people with disabilities and Deaf people who experience violence are aware of and have access to comprehensive services.

The NUCOV organizations originally came together around the issue of violence against women with disabilities in 2004-05. Each participated in an earlier Office on Violence Against Women funded project focused on cross training domestic violence/sexual assault and disabilities personnel across the state. They have continued the work of that grant unfunded until receiving funding in 2007. Their current grant project is focused on enhancing their internal capacities through formal collaboration and targeted systems change. Their change efforts will improve services to people with a wide range of disabilities who experience violence in the Cache and Rich counties of Utah.

Currently in their planning phase, NUCOV is preparing to assess each of its partner agencies’ staffs, administrations, boards of directors, and clients to identify existing gaps in services and opportunities to address those gaps. They plan to use the information collected to develop a strategic plan to guide their work over the next two years.

Process Documents

Recipients of the Office on Violence Against Women's Education & Technical Assistance Grant to End Violence Against Women with Disabilities are required to engage in a planning and development process. As part of this process, each collaboration conducts activities to strengthen their collaboration, identify their focus, learn about the needs in their organizations, and develop a concrete plan for addressing those needs. This section contains files that document this process.

Collaboration Charter

As part of the planning phase of their grant project, the NUCOV team created a collaboration charter. This document outlines the collaborative's members, member roles and responsibilities, vision and mission, values and relevant definitions. The collaboration charter also describes the team's decision making and conflict resolution protocols, policies on confidentiality, and their communication and work plan. The collaboration charter document is available in both a Microsoft Word Version and a Microsoft Text Version below.
