ARISE, Inc.
Onondaga County’s collaboration - formally knows as Project EMERGE - is a partnership between two established and highly regarded agencies: Vera House, a multi-service domestic violence and sexual assault agency with a focus on direct client service, community education and community planning, and ARISE, a community based-independent living center run by and for people with disabilities. Together, they aim to improve access and create systems change by building a comprehensive and inclusive coordinated response within their own organizations as well as the community at large for women with disabilities and Deaf women who have experienced domestic and sexual violence.
Together with their community partners, Project EMERGE will create a comprehensive and inclusive community response system, guided by, and in service to, people with disabilities and Deaf people who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence. While their collaboration’s focus is on changing their own agencies first, they are working to ensure that those changes are easily replicable. They hope to use the model they create to inform the larger community and neighboring counties.
