Accessing Safety, Innovative Resources to Improve Services

Funded by the Office on Violence Against Women, the Accessing Safety Initiative helps organizations and communities meet the needs of women with disabilities & Deaf women who are victims or survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, & stalking.

The Accessing Safety Initiative offers a range of technical assistance opportunities open to all grantees of the Office on Violence Against Women.

Web Conference Series

Serving Survivors with Disabilities and Deaf Survivors: Practical Guidance and Information for Advocates and Others Working to End Sexual and Domestic Violence.

This November, the Vera Institute of Justice's Center on Victimization and Safety has launched a new web conference series, Serving Survivors with Disabilities and Deaf Survivors: Practical Guidance and Information for Advocates and Others Working to End Sexual and Domestic Violence. This series is designed to build individual and organizational capacity to improve services for survivors with disabilities and Deaf survivors.  This web conference series will provide OVW grantees with the opportunity to build concrete skills and knowledge to better serve survivors with disabilities. Topics include the Americans with Disabilities Act, mandatory reporting and confidentiality, requests for accommodations, American Sign Language interpreters, and many others.

Web conferences will occur once per month starting November 2011 through March 2013 and will be offered free of charge.
