Power and Control Wheel for Deaf Women

DeafHope has designed its own variant of the original Power and Control Wheel that is specific to women who are Deaf. Hearing professionals, however well versed in issues of domestic violence, often overlook signs of domestic violence in the Deaf community.

The Power and Control Wheel for Deaf Women is comprised of an outer wheel linked to an inner circle by eight wedge-shaped pieces. Each wedge is labeled with a different aspect of physical or sexual violence put upon a woman by her abuser: intimidation; emotional abuse; isolation; using hearing privilege; using children; economic abuse; minimizing, denying, and blaming; coercion and threats.
