The Deaf community is a microcosm of society. As such, it is comprised of people from all walks of life. While the experiences of Deaf people are shaped in large part by being deaf, they are also shaped by other aspects of who they are. It is particularly important to understand these additional experiences because they serve as the basis for barriers and discrimination, which shape their access to education, employment, housing, healthcare, and social services.
