Improving services for victims/survivors with disabilities and Deaf women in your community requires careful planning and consideration. This work is built upon a strong collaboration between organizations in your community that serve people with disabilities, persons who are Deaf, and victims of domestic and sexual violence. As it begins its work, your collaboration will serve many purposes. Most importantly, it will bring together the knowledge and the skills that, while often disconnected in a community, are necessary to effectively meet the needs of women with disabilities and Deaf women who have experienced violence.
After your collaborative has developed a strong foundation for working together, the next step is to collectively identify the unmet needs and gaps in services that exist in your community. This information will help your collaboration make informed decisions about the actions that are needed to improve services in your area. Creating a needs assessment and later a strategic plan—outlining your plans and actions in detail—will allow for you to meet those goals that you have set as a collective and establish change in your community
