Suburban & Rural Areas
Even in areas with public transit services, it is important to be aware of operating limitations, particularly times of service in suburban and rural areas where public transit systems may not operate beyond rush hour or on weekends. In this case, it will be critical to work with other organizations and see if there is a way of sharing accessible vans during off hours.
- Likewise, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA)
offers assistance to organizations, companies, and RTAs seeking to improve the accessibility of the transportation they provide. - An often overlooked resource are members of the community who may have modified vehicles of their own who may be willing to offer rides or loan out their vehicles in certain circumstances. Often clergy can help identify these individuals.
