Transportation is important to everyone. It is a key tool for independence and choice whether you drive a car, ride a bike, use some form of public transit or what’s known as “paratransit,” a system required by law to provide accessible transportation for people who may not be able to used “fixed route” transit like subways and buses. For survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, available and accessible transportation may be a critical concern when reaching out to needed services.
