For many survivors, finding a new place to live is the key to the future. The process is seldom easy. If a woman needs affordable housing, accessible housing or housing with disability support services, the process is confusing at best. Where do I start? What can I expect? Who determines eligibility for subsidized housing or housing with supports?
An understanding of the general housing field and fair housing protection is needed to prepare meaningful search plans for women with disabilities and their families. You’ll find here an overview of the affordable/low-income housing market, fair housing laws and tenant/landlord laws. It is important to remember that, similar to assisting non-disabled individuals, women with disabilities and their families will need a search plan that is customized to their specific situation and needs.
