Providers understand the sensitive nature and difficulty of performing a successful sexual assault examination. Generally, it assumed that the more natural the environment is for questioning and examining, the less anxious the survivor may be.
An accessible examination table should be adjustable for height, preferably to as low as 16 inches above the floor. Other desirable features for accessible examination tables include:
Someone who is choosing an accessible examination table should actually observe the table in use by several wheelchair users before buying it. Manufacturers' interpretations of accessibility do not always agree with the experiences of people with disabilities. 1
