Adapting Communication to Meet Specific Needs

Overview

Although there are general modifications providers can make to improve communication that apply to a spectrum of situations, when working with survivors who experience disabilities or are Deaf, some survivors might require specific modifications to match their needs so that successful communication can be achieved.

 

The following section provides information on some of the more specific modifications that are necessary when working with persons with disabilities or who are Deaf. Although this list includes a number of the most common modifications, it is a good idea to become knowledgeable in the variety of resources available to gain a more thorough understanding of what would work best for the people you serve.
