Information Environment & Dimensional Extremes

Issues Related to the Information Environment

For survivors of short stature, ADA compliant heights may be too high. Bridging the gap in reach range to get brochures and other information and to be able to use a shared computer can be remedied easily. Awareness can minimize frustration and delays.

For obese survivors, the most important aspect of the information environment is to ensure that she has enough information available on how to navigate the building easily and comfortably and the survivor knows where to locate the largest restrooms, bathrooms and large capacity chairs.

Possible Solutions

  • Place some brochures and other informational materials on lower shelves for people of short stature.  Be sure to replenish these whenever you replenish those on higher shelves.
  • Place a computer on a lower sitting desk for people of short stature.
