Wendie Abramson

Wendie Abramson is the Director of Safe Place's Disability Services ASAP (A Safety Awareness Program) in Austin, TX. Ms. Abramson began working in the disability field in 1989 and has extensive experience working with persons who have physical, cognitive, sensory, and/or psychiatric disabilities. She is a Licensed Master’s Social Worker and a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Abramson has overseen the Disability Services ASAP program at SafePlace since 1998 and has been instrumental in expanding the program’s work statewide and nationally.  She has served as the editor of various SafePlace publications on the issue of violence against people with disabilities, and these best practice resources are utilized nationally and internationally by professionals to improve victim services to individuals with disabilities. Ms. Abramson has presented at state and national conferences on these topics and served on various state/national conference planning committees. She previously served as the Vice Chair of the Deaf Abused Women and Children Advocacy Services’ Board of Directors and currently serves as an Advisory Council member on the National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life.
