Sandy Ortman

Sandy Ortman has been with the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) since June, 2000. As Director of Special Programs at CALCASA, Sandy directs two national Technical Assistance grants, the Education and Training Grant to End Violence Against Women with Disabilities and the Training and Technical Assistance Grant to Reduce Violent Crimes Against Women on Campus, both of which are funded by the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice.   Ms Ortman has been involved in the support and passage of state legislation and as a result, she coordinated the Campus Sexual Assault Research Project for the Office of the Governor of California, concerning California's college campuses and their response to sexual assault. Currently, CALCASA is implementing a statewide media campaign targeting young men ages 14-18, and Ms. Ortman is providing knowledge and technical support regarding social marketing and the delivery of services to both the campaign staff and the California Rape Crisis Centers.

Ms. Ortman is involved in many aspects of ending violence against women both on college campuses and in the community. She has assisted campuses with strategic planning, judicial policy and protocol review, the development of peer education programs and media relations. She also completed the production of the Campus Violence Prevention Resource Guides, a unique set of materials aimed at collaboration building and training of campus partners and their role in ending violence against women Ms. Ortman has been appointed to several boards and committees such as the Violence Against Women Statewide Prevention Project, Trafficking Work Group, The CDC's 3rd National Sexual Violence Prevention Conference Steering Committee, the California Victim Assistance Academy Steering Committee, and the National Institute of Justice Technical Working Group on "Prevention Rape Through Bystander Education." She graduated from Ohio University with a B.A in Sociology/ Criminology and a M.Ed. in College Student Personnel Services.
