Sally Mason is the Director of Operations at Sojourner Center, an agency that provides a comprehensive continuum of services for victims of domestic violence. Sojourner Center’s 124-bed shelter campus is one of the largest in the nation. Other services include community case management, lay legal advocacy, licensed childcare, and transitional housing. Under the leadership of Ms. Mason, Sojourner Center has developed multiple innovative programs addressing how domestic violence commonly occurs in the context of substance abuse, child abuse, serious mental illness, and chronic homelessness. She has also led the development of the Vanguard Program, designed to enlist the community to be at the forefront of the domestic violence movement. Since 1985, Ms. Mason has worked in various settings with victims of violence and compounding issues of chemical dependency, gang affiliation, teen pregnancy, and juvenile delinquency. She is a trainer at the local, state, national, and international levels, and has been instrumental in policy change in the state of Arizona regarding service delivery in an empowering dynamic. She has been the recipient of the Sojourner Truth Award, The Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence Staff of the Year Award, and Soroptimist International’s Women Helping Women Award.
