Leslie Myers

Leslie Myers M.S., C.R.C., C.D.V.C has been at IndependenceFirst, an Independent Living Center in Milwaukee, WI, since 1998, whereshe works extensively on the issue of the abuse against individuals with disabilities. As part of this work, she provides counseling and advocacy to victims, technical support and case management assistance to domestic violence and sexual assault agencies. Ms. Myers also serves on subcommittees of the Milwaukee and the Washington County Coordinated Community Response Teams, as well as the Access Subcommittee of the Governor’s Council on Domestic Violence. After the tragic events of September 11, 2001, she provided crisis counseling and other assistance for staff and consumers at the Manhattan independent living center. She has presented workshops and trainings in a variety of settings nationwide on abuse against individuals with disabilities.  She is also the Chair of the NCIL Task Force on Violence and Abuse of People with Disabilities.  Ms. Myers received the 2006 Justice Award from the Governor's Council on Domestic Abuse. She holds an M.S. in Educational Rehabilitation Counseling and a Trauma Counseling Certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and Certified Domestic Violence Counselor.
