What We Do

We provide comprehensive training and technical assistance to organizations and communities that receive funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women This link will open a new browser window. to improve services for women with disabilities and Deaf women who have experienced violence, and limited assistance to other communities. We offer a variety of services to help these communities meet their goals.

Our Approach

Unlike many technical assistance providers, we do not rely principally on professional consultants or our own staff to provide advice, but rather on associates: active practitioners who are successfully changing their own systems together with experts grounded in practice. Our associate pool comprises of over 30 practitioners who are actively engaged in the multidisciplinary area of violence against women with disabilities and Deaf women, and reflect the diversity of perspectives and professions in this field.

We begin from the premise that the most useful assistance comes from people who work directly in the relevant practice areas and who know firsthand both what it takes to change a local system and what is (or is not) transferable across jurisdictions. These are the people who can help navigate the political, financial, and bureaucratic obstacles that frequently block sensible change. Our technical assistance is structured to bring active practitioners who have succeeded in changing their service systems - our associates - together with those who aspire to do so.

Our Methods

We use a variety of methods to deliver education and technical assistance to communities and organizations to help them meet their goal of improving services in their community for women with disabilities and Deaf women who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. In addition to our on-line and print resources, we provide technical assistance through multi-jurisdictional trainings, in-person site visits, conference calls, and consultation. Each engagement is tailored to meet the needs of its participants and has its own purpose, goals and objectives. We also conduct strategic planning sessions, facilitate meetings, and convene problem solving sessions for our clients.
